"It's about the beer. Good beer."

Also known by it's former name, The Macquarie Hotel, the Schwartz Brewery Hotel offers up some very fine beers made onsite within the hotel's microbrewery.

Here's a few things we had to say about the place:
  • "Porter 3.80 all night. Local pale ale 4.50. Band was pretty good. Celebration ale $9. Big servings for meals. Good crowd mix, I would go back for sure."
  • "Thing I liked about it and would go back for was the Irish Red Ale - delish!"
  • "The brews are cheap and better then most commercial beers. Good when you're broke."
  • Good beer selection!
  • Carlton Draught costs $5.50
  • "For the time we got there the security weren't too zealous, we walked in with no hassles."
  • "Also, you can see the brewery on the way to the shitters."

Dr Schwartz Irish Red
This is a pub to go to for a catch up with a mate and to enjoy a few tunes from the live entertainment. Most importantly, it's about the beer. With a great range of award-winning beers, you can't go wrong picking any of what the guys here are producing - Dr Schwartz Pale Ale, Schwarts Bier, Pils, Bavarian Red, Porter, Belgian Strong Ale, Heferweizen, Irish Red, Sydney Brewery Summertime and Sydney Cider. For those that can't pry themselves away from their favourite more nationally known beers, also on tap you'll find beers like Carlton Draught, VB, Pure Blonde, Coopers Sparkling Ale and, at least for the moment, Coopers Celebration Ale.

There is apparently some good food coming out of the "Pub Life Kitchen", which we weren't going to dive into at midnight, but from what we read on their menu, all looks reasonably good - burgers for $15, steaks, chicken, fish, pastas, salads... and everything south of $20. A good source later had this to say - "Go back on a Wednesday night and get a burger. Will blow your mind!". That we will!

The Schwartz Brewery Hotel is not one we're putting on the top of our favourites list, it could be a pub anywhere. There's nothing overly awesomely spectacularly gnarly rad unique about the place, that is if you don't count their beer. That's where they win. Reasonably priced craft beer on tap will score you beery points every time. We'll be going back some time in the future, either for their apparently "mind blowing" burger or any of their own craft beers.

  2. Update: Bot and Blogs made it down to the Schwarts / Macquarie Hotel recently for pub lunch and all reports good. Burger wasn't too bad although pattie was a bit bland. Doing great things on the beer front with their Sydney Brewery beers. Great prices. Nice chilling in the front bar. Rock and roll.
