"Slip into some cheap beer then slip out"

It was a brief visit to this Merival-owned venue on this occasion but it was enough to draw some conclusions and reflect on another time we had slipped in to the Slip Inn. Read on for more....

Our previous visit was a post-work stop off on the way to a work function, where we dropped in on their Friday night "half price pints" special. Big win. We grabbed the pool table in a separate room out back and had it to ourselves. After a game and chugging the beers we escape quickly out the side door. We got the sense of a bit of a jerk-establishment but it was still a worthwhile visit.

On this more recent visit, Sydney Pub List slipped into the Slip Inn for a super quick beer post-lunch. The place was quiet, unlike our Friday night visit and seating was abundant. With options of sitting at the bar, in the front room, in the separate pool room, the opening dining area or the loungier side room, we were spoilt for arse-plonkling choice. We then discovered the reasonably sized beer garden out back, which we would imagine would see a bit of a shit-fight for spots on a busy sunny day. We ended up opting for a window seat by Sussex Street.

We didn't order a Carlton Draught because they didn't have any(!) so can't report on that, although paying $7.50 for a Squires brew leads us to believe your Draught dollor wont go too far. Spotted on the menu, among other things, was a burger priced at $17. It's with these figures we decide we're in a slightly more pricier establishment. You really need to come here on half-price pint night to make the most of it for value. We also note that there are some "pints for schooner prices" going on Thursday evenings.  Some other beers we spotted on tap include Stella, Coopers Pale, Superdry, Squire's Crush Cider, OneFifty Lashes and Heineken.

It's a nice space but unfortunately overpriced. You'd only come here to make the most of the drinks specials but we think that's about it. With a surprise beer garden, some nice areas, couches, high seats and bench by the window, passable bar music, it's an okay pub.... during the day. For us, the thought of the later-night possible douche-bag factor turns us off a bit. As we say, get in, drink up, get out.
We wanted to push for a 2.5 schooner rating but we didn't really have anything to justify that extra step. Speak up and convince us otherwise.

    1. No, we're not Evan. We're are in the industry of.... blogging, with the reviews here being our personal opinions. We don't expect everyone to agree. We are "branching out and trying new things", hence why we are going to as many pubs as possible. Thanks for reading though. We would love to hear back from you with your suggestions of places we should check out. Cheers!
