Time of stop in: Rainy lunch
“Amble in to the Amble Inn”
A country pub in Corindi, not to be mistaken with Anne Boleyn, the second wife of King Henry VIII. You might know Corindi as the blueberry capital of New South Wales, located about 40 minutes north of Coffs Harbour.
Aside from the locals staring us down (“yer not from around here” style) it felt like a warm and welcoming place thanks to the rustic décor and friendly staff. We could imagine going here for a big night with friends, a quiet drink after work, or a family gathering in the massive beer garden out the back. Speaking of space, you want space?! You got it! Space, space and more space. Then you’ll find a door to a room in which there is even more space!
As for food, the mains were a bit pricey for our lunch time visit ranging from $20 To $26 however the “bar snacks” menu was much more reasonable with wraps and so on around the $15 mark. We were confused by the “burger” section of the menu as the items were called “sandwiches”. They were delivered to our table in warp like speed (less than 10 minutes from our order) which is a credit to the kitchen. Upon inspection, we noticed that the “sandwiches” not only looked like burgers, but tasted like burgers also. From this we could only presume that they were not in fact sandwiches, but burgers. We are super sleuths. We are gods. Praising optional.
The beer options probably won’t surprise you. Coopers Pale Ale (4.70), Carlton Draught, Tooheys New, etcetera. The price for a Carlton Draught is $4.60.
The burgers themselves were satisfactory. Burger Bot gave a rating of 6.5 “not the best I’ve ever had, but I’d be more than happy to return for a beer, a chat, a shot of pool and a staring competition with the locals”.
Other features we were impressed with included a Jukebox with all of the young people music of today, a pool table, a skill tester, buck hunter and luckily only a few pokie machines in full view of the bar. No sneaky pokie games for you.
One last thing we must mention was the Alcoholizer machine found next to the Jukebox. If you drive here, you will never again wonder if you’re over the limit! Simply follow the instructions provided and after a minute you’ll be given your BAC reading. Why these are not installed in all pubs and bars, we will never know.
Overall we liked it, and we’re likely to amble in again next time we’re around Corindi.
