"Dark Dicks"

With many pubs to choose from in Balmain, what makes Dick's stand out? The reason we dropped our dicks in was for its proximity to mini pub crawl starter, Exchange, in that it is right across the road. Two pubs on one roundabout. Which one gets the bigger knob? I mean, nod. Sydney Pube List speaks below...

After a steady start to the evening the crew moved 3 steps across the road from previous crawl destination, The Exchange Hotel, and took in some Dick's. Big ol' Dicks.

The font bar is a little more exciting here, that is, if you can see it. The bar was rather dark. Dick's, are you a night club? No, so creep the lights up a tad. Having trouble seeing what you have on tap. The Carlton Draught was about $5.50 if we can recall. We settled for Fat Yak. Compared to The Exchange there are more beers on offer here.

Pull your schlong up at the bar and get friendly with the beer taps or grab a high table or seat under the TV - one of a couple that were playing a Wests Tigers game (Balmain, of course). They lost. In between the League of Ground Humpers we noted half-decent tunes playing from the jukebox in the front bar. If you like your pub with a TAB cave, you're in luck. There's one hidden around the back of the bar.

So all fairly standard stuff so far. Then there's the beer garden. Big space out back with many in tonight for a feed and drinks with friends, a couple might have been in the Dick's spirit, rocking out with their cocks out. Big screen included for the big games. Our experience at Dick's wasn't bad but reckon we would have enjoyed it more if we were having a boozey night out back, pants optional. Noted also that the menu looks pretty good - eg. braised lamb shoulder, wagyu beef and veg pie, pumpkin and pistachio ravioli, etc.

Overall, Dick's is not a bad pub and one we actually might visit again, unlike its roundabout partner, The Exchange. Side note, pub crawl instigator and Sydney Pube List dustboot, Mr Miller, caved in to having about 5 or 6 shots here after stating flat out at the Exchange that he would not be doing shots. Must have enjoyed Dick's more than the blah pub across the road.

So if you were to be standing at the intersection of Beattie and Mullens streets looking at both of these Balmain pubs, pick Dick's. We picked dicks, got a hand on it, got a taste for Dick's, Dick's, who doesn't like some dicks?!
