Paragon Hotel, Sydney

1 Loftus Street, Sydney
Sydney Pub List reviewers present: Burger Bot, Fraulein Burgman, Joe Blogs
Time of review: Lunchtime

"Ryan misses the mark at the Quay"

We marked this one for a visit a few times but never found a seat. Having now been, we don't know why that was. We're not hurrying back.

The Paragon is located right behind Circular Quay and classily shares a building with Mcdonalds (from memory this building may have been a glass or bottle factory way back in the past but we can't remember where we read that). In the establishment you'll find the mandatory front bar, gambling-a-holics heaven, and an upstairs dining and bar area, as well as small area to sit outside (watching bus drivers take their piss-breaks).

The Bot orders a couple of their finest

A slightly steep $5.60 Carlton Draught turned us off so instead we went with the even more expensive Asahi at $8, just to be ridiculous. A Bulmers was around $7. Negative points all round.

On the plates for us today was a steak sanga, steak and the fish and chips. Sadly, we were all disappointed. Here are the verdicks on those...

Steak sandwich. Only managed to get through half due to it's blerkness

Fraulein Burgman's Steak Sandwich Report I rate this sweet sweet (literally) steak sanga a low 4 out of 10. I was disappointed. I couldn't finish due to the meal being too sweet, with too much sweet sauce going on. Not a sweet deal.

Steak. Yes, this is a steak on a plate.
Burger Bot's Lunch Special Steak Report
For a $12 lunch special steak, it's "fine". Cooked alright. Fraulein Burgman chimes in at this point exclaiming, "We can get better chips next door at Maccas!". The Bot rates the steak 6/10. "The bitter taste left in my mouth from the booze buying experience overshadowed my food."

Fush n Chups. Over the greasalibrium.
Joe Blogs Fish'n'Chips Report
6/10. It started out okay but quickly went beyond the "Greasalibrium". Meh.

More notes
Location-wise, Ryan's Paragon isn't bad for transport, situated by Circular Quay train station and it's prime for tourists, but on the downside that comes along with the Quay location, it's pricey and may attract jerks later on. The Paragon is also good if you're a bus driver (with about 3 million buses parked along side) or a scabbing ibis (Trent and Jared the ibis were nearby scabbing food out of the bin. We noted that they would rather eat that than our Paragon leftovers) - bus drivers and ibis, might be one in the same.  Note, bring your ice cream bucket helmet for bird attacks (refer Frenzal Rhomb).

Stuff happens here

A few last things to add, the music was shithouse, but at least there was some music. There's an ATM available for gamblers (and Burger Bots on this occasion). we assume/hope there are toilets available just in case you need to throw up your meal. The Ryan's Hotels group own a few other bars about the place (Republic Bar, being one we have reviewed before) and we think this one is near the bottom of the pile. Boooo! Sydney Pub List rate this harbourside ibis hangout an incriminating 1.5 schooners.
