"Duelling Banjos!"

After checking out Mount Canobolas and Lake Canobolas it was time to see what Hotel Canobolas had to offer. Situated in the middle of town, it seemed to be one of the better pubs on offer in Orange.

We walked past the The Royal Hotel, maybe their closest competition, which wasn't our bag. Don't get me wrong I like laser shows. Not into queuing shows though.

So, here are the scribbled notes from the night, some I don't remember so well:

  • Ridiculous amount of laydays. Single men of regional NSW take note.
  • Heelzilla admired by overt jerk Bulldogs fan. Kept his hat on basically all night, maybe for fear his brain would fall out? Bundy and cola his tipple of choice.
  • Local cop joined table of said ladies for a drink.
  • Good live tunes. So good that Burger Bot and "Guitar Man" will be announcing their engagement any day now. Sucker for a Ryan Adams cover
  • Dealt with drunk local farmer who kept requesting the most ridiculous songs from artists such as Neil Diamond, Billy Idol, Farnsie then duelling banjos from Deliverance...Come on people!?
  • Ryan Adams goes on unappreciated by essentially all men and women alike.
  • Bob Dylan brings the crowd together. A little too together as a woman comes out of nowhere and starts kissing man as though she was a horse and his face was a salt lick.
  • Sixteen dollar pizzas
  • Coopers Pale will set you back $5.30 – cheap! Carlton Draught $4.90!
  • All the usual betting gear, which Burger Bot observes as being empty apart from Robot Dogs!
  • Muggaccinos & mochacinos!
  • Bar staff very well dressed with vests and ties, no chinos.
  • Dead til bang-on 10:30.
  • "Officer Smiles" continues cruising the bar and tables of people he knows. Hard day at work.
  • Bar staff didn’t look quite old enough to drink let alone work in a pub. “The Godfather” working the bar. Still possibly on the quest for his maiden? [I don't remember where we were going with that]
  • Youth of today with their rad haircuts from the late 90s. Slicked and flattened at front, roughed at the back with the addition of a cute side rattie.
  • Flags on the ceiling show their acceptance of different cultures.
  • Cook your own steak bistro! Closed for the night, but now a perfect place to take some rad selfies! Ladies!
  • Thought it was all too good when we spotted a movie playing silently on one of the many TVs (we presume are usually used for sporting purposes). '16 Blocks' Mos Def and Angel Batista from Dexter. What more could we ask for?
  • Two bohemian rastas made a late appearance wearing rainbow beanies, Bob Marley t-shirts and brown corduroys which were ill-fitting in every way possible. During a Bob Dylan song, they danced with the wealthy, stuck up looking princesses that thought they were in the Royal.

Therefore we can only conclude that this is the pub in Orange where people come to have a fair go.
Nice camera work!
