NSW Sports Club, Sydney

10 Hunter Street, Sydney
Reviewers present: Joe Blogs and Dr Smash
Time of review: Lunch

"Baverage"

On second visit to the Hunter Street venue, we are sadly disappointed. Below-average food and for a 'club', no cheap beer in sight.

Foreign Correspondent: Grand Hotel, Kiama

The Sydney Pub List team need holidays sometimes. However, the urge to review a pub doesn't die. Whilst these pubs are not in Sydney or surrounding suburbs, we thought it would be fun to offer up pub reviews on places beyond. See the Foreign Correspondent page of our blog for more details and the list.

The Grand Hotel, Kiama

While taking a long drive through to the Southern Highlands, Simone and I decided to detour and grab some lunch in coastal town, Kiama. Going with the pub theme of late, we rolled on past the Grand Hotel and decided to give it a go.

Hazy memories

It was September. 2012. Aaaaaaaaages ago. We tried to post this blog way back then and failed. In 2015 we tried to whip through another review, took a few more notes, lost them, failed again. The SPL crew are all a bit busy with other commitments at the moment so for now, here's what we had to say on the Coopers. A lost blog.....

This Newtown pub, situated on popular King Street, dates back to around 1869 when it was then known as The Shakespeare Hotel. Beers, beers, jugs, meals, tranny bingo, beers, ground floor bar, dining area, open-top outdoor deck upper-floor beer garden thingo upstairsy bar, beer, check, check, check.

Foreign Correspondent: Hotel Canobolas, Orange

248 Summer Street, Orange
Reviewers present: Burger Bot & Frau
Time of review: Post Dinner

"Duelling Banjos!"

After checking out Mount Canobolas and Lake Canobolas it was time to see what Hotel Canobolas had to offer. Situated in the middle of town, it seemed to be one of the better pubs on offer in Orange.

Courthouse Hotel, Newtown

202 Australia Street, Newtown
Reviewers present: Macca, Simone, JB
Time of review: Afternoon AFL and beers

Courthouse Hotel - quiet on the outside, happening on the in

"Court is now in session"

The Courthouse Hotel, or "Courty" as it is more commonly known, is located just up the road from the Newtown Courthouse - funny that. There's no bullshit there. Ok, sometimes there is some bullshit out the back when all the wannabe-cool-kids blow in from 'outta (new)town', but in general what we have here is a relaxing place to enjoy your beer, meet friends, have a laugh, and enjoy a bit of sport on one of the TVs if that's what you're into - AFL preferred pub by the way. And that, ladies and gentlemen of the jury, was my opening statement.
